What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a hands-on profession, centered around care for the neuro-musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nervous system...).

Will I have to undress for examination or treatment?
Your Chiropractor may request you to remove certain articles of clothing during your examination or treatment, but only if they feel this is absolutely necessary. You have the right to refuse to remove any article of clothing. You will always be offered a modesty towel or gown.

We advise wearing loose fitting clothes if possible, but do not worry if you cannot as many clients visit our clinic on the way to and from work in their busienss clothes.

Especially in the case of knee/ ankle/ shoulder problems, we recommend bringing a change of shorts, sports bra or vest.

Does Chiropractic treatment hurt?
Some aspects of Chiropractic treatment are slightly uncomfortable (similar to deep tissue massage) but no part of your treatment should be acutely painful. Your Chiropractor will always obtain your consent and cease any treatment techniques which you find too uncomfortable.

Some clients may also experience some discomfort following treatment. This is often comparable to discomofrt experienced after a workout - as treatment is essenitally a bit of a workout for your body.

What is the cracking/ popping sound?
The sound you often hear during a Chiropractic adjustment is created when gas exits the fluid within your joint.

The goal of the Chiropractic adjustment is to restore joint funciton and to stimulate the nervous system through the delivery of a high velocity, low amplitude, thrust. The motion of this thrust simultaneously causes gas from the joint fluid to come out - this makes a pop sound, kind of like when you pop bubble gum.

Is Chiropractic treatment safe?

Chiropractic treatment is a safe option for most people. As part of your care with CHIROMO your Chiropractor will complete an in depth consultation and assessment to determine whether you are a good candidate for chiropractic treatment. It's worth bearing in mind that we don't adjust all of our patients, and will use more gentle techniques if preferred or required.

Any manual therapy intervention carries some risk, and your Chiropractor will detail these with you thoroughly following your assessment. You'll have the opportunity to ask any questions, as well as the option to proceed or decline treatment based on your own judgment.

Do I need a GP referral?
No, you do not require a GP referral to visit CHIROMO, we are a private service and you can book yourself in via our website, by email, or by telephone. *Please note that some insurance companies require you to attain a GP referral before authroizing cover).

Will I need x-rays or an MRI?

In line with best practice guidelines, we do not routinely offer imaging. If necessary, your Chiropractic can refer you back to your GP, or privately, for further investigations including x-rays and MRI scans.

If you have previously had an x-ray or MRI scan for your complaint, please bring your report and/or images to your initial consultation if they are available to you.
